
We are searching for transfer peer mentors that are devoted to developing an empowering and supportive transfer community at SF State consisting of students, faculty and staff.
Job Summary:
The Transfer Peer Mentors serve as student advocates for newly admitted transfer students and provide one-on-one support, guidance, and resources to students as they transition to SF State. As a peer mentor, you will help develop an empowering and supportive transfer community at SF State consisting of students, faculty and staff. In August 2023, peer mentors will begin the training period to learn about ways to support the smooth transition and success of community college and newly-admitted transfer students at SF State. During the Fall 2023 semester, Transfer Peer Mentors will help facilitate community-building and resource-sharing activities in HIST 451/AU 303 course for first-semester transfer students, assist with developing and executing transfer student events within the greater campus community, and work on specific projects, both collaboratively and/or independently, based on the needs of the program.

General Job Duties:
25%: Mentoring and providing guidance to prospective transfer students and/or first-semester transfer students at SF State. Including in-class participation/facilitation in HIST 451/AU 303 course in Fall 2023.
25%: Assisting the TPM Program Manager with designing and executing creative activities, events, resources, and tools to facilitate transfer students’ transition to SF State.
25%: Coordinating and assisting with transfer events, outreach, and engagement activities at SF State.
10%: Improving the TPM Program's visibility within SF State to both students and other campus partners. Including, but not limited to, updating and creating content for TPM social media accounts.
10%: Day-to-day general administrative duties including email correspondence with prospective students, record keeping, and basic data entry.
5%: Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Completed at least one semester of study at San Francisco State University

Minimum 3.0 SF State Cumulative GPA

Junior or Senior standing

Available on Mondays 7:00 - 9:00 pm and on Tuesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 pm for the fall 2023 semester

Strong interpersonal skills

Knowledgeable in university procedures, programs, and resources

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively via remote modalities

Ability to work in-person at SFSU main campus on occasion

If hired, able to complete an I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification
Preferred Qualifications:
-
A transfer student from a California Community College or University

Previous mentorship experience

Knowledgeable in marketing, social media, group facilitation, and/or design programs like Canva

Completion of the Transfer Peer Mentor Information Session held Thursday, July 13th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm
