ASSIST and California Community College Course Equivalencies

What is ASSIST?

ASSIST is an online searchable database that shows how course credit earned at a California Community College (CCC) will transfer to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) campus. ASSIST is an important resource for answering these important questions about courses taken at a CCC:

Using the most current academic year available in the dropdown, select your community college and SF State using the two "Agreements with Other Institutions" search fields. Then select a specific SF State major.

In the "Transferable Courses" search field, use the CSU GE-Breadth Certification Courses report for a specific CCC. SF State applies GE fulfillment just as it is reported on ASSIST.

In the "Transferable Courses" search field, use the CSU Transferable Courses report for a specific CCC.

  • Approved articulation is based on when a course is taken, so selecting the correct academic year is important. Summer terms are treated as the last term of an academic year (Fall - Spring - Summer).
  • When you first visit the ASSIST website, orient yourself. Click and review the blue Notes from ASSIST section at the top.
  • If you see "No Course Articulated" next to an important SF State major requirement, contact artic@sfsu.edu. We will research potential articulation at your college.

Wonder if courses you've taken somewhere other than a CCC will count?

  1. Visit Transfer Credit Central to learn more. Go to Initial Evaluation of Transfer Credit.
  2. Check our supplemental database of course equivalency data for CSU and UC courses, plus non-ASSIST institutions.
  3. Look up one of our feeder schools in ASSIST to get a general idea of how your courses might be evaluated. City College of San Francisco, Skyline College, and Diablo Valley College are good examples. As outlined in the topics above, check the reports for CSU GE, SF State majors, and Transferable courses. NOTE: California Community College courses must adhere to guidelines established by the CSU for GE appproval, and not all U.S. institutions have comparable guidelines. Therefore, our initial evaluation of a non-CCC course may not align with approvals for comparable courses published in ASSIST.
